ToC Head Referee Mike Riley Receives US Squash Award

Jan. 25, 2018 – New York, NY. Mike Riley, Head Referee at the J.P. Morgan Tournament of Champions, received the Stewart Brauns Award, presented annually to an individual who has made major administrative, off-the-court contributions to the game of squash. Kevin Klipstein, chief executive of US Squash, made the presentation between the men’ semifinal matches on the J.P. Morgan Tournament of Champions glass court in Grand Central Terminal.

Riley has the distinction of being one of just five certified World Squash Federation Referees, of which he is the only one in the United States. His love affair with the sport began over 40 years ago when he returned to his hometown Salford, England after attending high school in Sweden and the talented soccer, hockey and golf athlete discovered squash.

Riley travels ten weeks of the year to referee professional tournaments across the country, and occasionally overseas. He also a squash teaching professional at Rhode Island Country Club in Barrington, and for Barrington High School’s club team.
