Top college stars will meet in the first-ever J.P. Morgan Tournament of Champions wild card playoffs starting this week for a prized spot in the main draw of the prestigious $360,000 professional tournament to be held Jan 16-24 in Grand Central Terminal.

Men’s wild card playoff action starts Tuesday, January 8, and runs through Thursday, January 10, at Chelsea Piers in Stamford, Connecticut. The women’s playoff will take place Sunday and Monday, January 13-14, at the Yale Club in New York City.

The men’s draw ensures a first-time ToC main draw appearance for the wild card winner and the opportunity to face three-time ToC champion Ramy Ashour on the Oracle NetSuite SuiteSuccess Court in Grand Central’s Vanderbilt Hall Wednesday, January 16. The women’s draw will also produce a first-time ToC main draw appearance with the victor set to face Egypt’s world No. 17 Hania El Hamammy at New York Athletic Club Friday, January 18.

The all-American men’s draw is seeded for an Ivy League final between Yale’s Spencer Lovejoy and Harvard’s Timmy Brownell. Lovejoy and Brownell previously played alongside each other while representing Junior Team USA at the World Junior Championships.

Lovejoy will first need to get past his Yale teammate Harrison Gill in Wednesday’s semifinal. Brownell awaits either Middlebury graduate and world No. 216 David Cromwell or seventeen-year-old Thomas Rosini, who just returned stateside from representing Team USA at the British Junior Open.

On the women’s side, Princeton graduate and New York City-based Canadian Nicole Bunyan awaits either U.S. junior and New York City native Olivia Robinson, or U.S.-based Finnish international and St. George’s alum Emilia Soini.

The men’s matches at Chelsea Piers CT are open to the public. Those interested in attending women’s matches at the Yale Club should contact Charlie Johnson, cjohnson@yaleclubnyc.org. Results will be posted on tocsquash.com.
